it is s**t tyre wear is worse and you can not do burnouts as easy
if you are going to corner at 200 km then i would put it in otherwise its not worth it

if you are going to corner at 200 km then i would put it in otherwise its not worth it I think yo may be talking about commodore IRS diffs there champ, and I guess if burnouts are your thing, you might as well just run a solid piece of pipe instead of rear shock absorbers. The IRS in the AU's is bloody good, and if you were that worried about the weight, you would fab some alloy upper and lower arms, and get the weight down. I believe its pretty much a bolt in conversion though, and seeing that the AU's were available with IRS as an option, and the floor pans didnt change that much from XE-AU in the rear, my guess is that it would not be that tough a conversion. Thats all i needed to hear, the IRS setup sure looks heavy compared to the live axle setup so 200KG would seem right, i think ill just spend my $$$ on a reco LSD diff. Thanks for the input

it has been done, someone on this site did it to their car or did it for someone else.
I was informed by 2 ford dealers that the au's irs is prone to clunks.

Difference between AU XR6HP and VCT is 130kg.
Some of that could also be attributed to 16in vs 17in wheels. I heard all you need to do for the IRS conversion is to weld in in two brackets?

the way the IRS behaves as opposed to the live axle would have an effect on acceleration times, wether it'd be a positive or negative effect depends on the geometry of the suspension

130kg would be approx .3secs over the 1/4mile (or about 3 car lengths)
, so I doubt 8kw would be enough to overcome that.
