Hi all. I did a manual conversion a few months back. It all went well until about 2 months in and i started getting noise, this rapidly increased and I ended up taking the box out thinking input shaft bearing was toast. Pulled box out and found that the bolts for the flywheel had come loose and box was fine.

Never the less i still I replaced box, clutch and flywheel (machined), spigot bearing etc to be safe and all went well for about 2 weeks and then the noise came back.

I took the box out again this arvo/ tonight and found same thing again (not as bad but flywheel bolts still a little loose) but this time there is a lot of oil coming from the holes into the crank shaft that the flywheel bolts on to (only bottom ones, and only bottom once all bolts removed) Is this because I gave her an oil change an maybe put a pinch too much (was ok on dipstick) and it is just letting excess out (a lot has drained out) or do I have damage, eg flywheel bolts too tight and stuffed something? I doubt they were too tight, they were tourqued to specs in manual and have managed to still come loose twice??

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

The holes in the crank actually go all the way through.
What you need to do is clean the threads and bolts then use loctite on the bolts and torque the bolts up to right torque settings.

Thanks heaps for the reply. I thought they went all the way through but thought I best make sure before bolting her all together.

I will give her a really good clean and got some new locktight other s**t was quite old

Cheers again for reply!

Use Loctite 271...it is high strength and high temp.
You will need to clean the bolts and bolt holes thoroughly, using brake cleaner, so it doesn't leave a residue.
Torque for the bolts is about 115 Nm.
Not torquing the bolts can lead to distortion of the rear of the crank, causing loose bolts, and oil leaks.
