I am looking to rebuild/build up a 302 Cleveland engine, doing as much of the work myself where possible. So in doing so, I am looking to buy a few parts from the states... because the 302 was not released in USA, as far as they are concerned the Cleveland was only ever a 351, im running into a few problems trying to use search functions on there sites to limit down my choices.
so whats the best way to search for parts? crank and conrods are a little more simple to figure out, but its more head components im focusing on for the wish list at the moment. any help would be greatly appreciated... cheers

The parts are the same. Just tell em you've got a 351 2V engine.

So it is literally just the crank, rods and cam that are different.
Do you know if the bearing sizes (main + rod) are different? I thought the heads were different? Cause the yanks recon our 302 heads are fairly desirable... Higher compression or something...

Yep. It's just destroked so the bearings and everything else is the same. They made the rods longer so they could use the same pistons. It's only a closed chamber casting to bring the comp back up with the short stroke and used the same 2V sized valves as a 351.

I understand now... So just crank, Conrod's and cam are different.

my mate has got a virgin 351 block as in still 20 thou i think ,i can double check if needed.

The Yanks did have 302's....they were in some Mustangs from the early 70's....you could get a povo pack one with a 200 six cylinder it....or go right to the other end of the scale and have a 428.
Anyway, the blocks for 302 and 351 are the same, what is different is the heads, pistons, rods, and crank. The 351 rods are about 5.8" and the 302 rods are about 6.0"....so the pistons are different crown heights, but the same 4.0" bore. 302's have a 3.0" stroke verses the 3.5" stroke for the 351. 302's had small chamber heads and 351's had open chamber heads ( this is for stock type ones, not GT stuff.)....so as to keep the CR under control. Early 302's tended to be 2 barrel intakes too. Early Boss engine heads (USA) were completely different to Windsor and Clevo heads....they were there own.

Any American 302 is a Windsor.
The Cleveland 302 was dodged up in Australia. 302 run a closed chamber head in 2V only. 351 was an open chamber head in either 4V or 2V. Early 351 motors that were not being fitted to a performance vehicle had 2 barrel intakes as well.

My bad... ....thought they would've had them.......they had everything else.

What happened CJH, is that the cleveland tooling was sent over here in the early 70's and Ford Australia wisley chose to destroke the cleveland to fill that smaller capacity V8 market rather than have a completely different engine to service.

Chrysler USA destroked a 318 back in the day to pass the 5,000 cc's limit for TransAm racing.
They moved the dizzy too, to the front of the timing cover and had a crab style dizzy cap.

Yep and chev did it by rearranging 283 and 327 parts too.
