aren't most adjustable lifters solid? not hydraulic at all. not claiming to know, just asking the question.

It basicly comes down to removing the HLAs, drilling throught he rocker tip and cut a thread, You'd then fit a threaded "solid adjuster' with a locking nut.

Talk to tighe cams as they advertise solid cams for the engine.
Surecam may also be of some help.
But it would want to a big f**k off cam to justify the effort and cost.

yes it can be done, we have an au 6 cyl running a solid cam with adjustable rockers,
we modified std rocker arms and made studs to suit, which fit into the lower part of the HLA therefore still retains the little swivel on the bottom of the hla

so they are still a 'solid lifter' hence the reference to 'solid cam' ? (ie: no hydrualic lash adjustment)

Thank you. I'm on the same level now hehe.

Is there much, if any, noise using these? I was considering this option to fix new HLAs that won't stop ticking.

yes they are noisy as you need to run clearance as with any solid cam,
if you have noisy HLA's you need to determine if its a HLA problem, rocker arm problem or oil feed problem. Are they all noisy or just one or two?
How long have they been in for and what oil are you running?

A mechanic had the car for 3 weeks and checked the specs & tolerances of everything in the rocker gear. He even swapped the rocker gear and cam with another customer's as a test. In the end he put it down to low oil pressure in the HLAs due to a blockage between the head and block. After replacing the MLS head gasket with a new one, and blowing out the oil galleries in the block, I thought it was pumping oil through OK. The HLAs are new and there's 2 or 3 still ticking after about 30km of driving.

When the engine was rebuilt and run-in, no HLA noise. The original head gasket started leaking on the dyno, so I replaced it with an AU MLS gasket. Now I have noise. :x (I'm in the process of bolting on a Raptor SC so I want it quiet before it goes back for a dynotune).

I know this problem has been discussed many times before and I've been following every recent thread about the problem. According to my mechanical gauge, the oil pressure is good. The oil is 10w30 and new. It's got me stumped.

Hi Mate, did you ever get to the bottom of your lash adjusters issue? I'm having the same problem as you.. I had the head reconditioned and thought that I would throw a set of lifters in it as well and I can't get rid of the lifter noise...

I'm going to take the rocker gear off again and blow out the oil galleries to the rocker gear...

Can't see why it's doing it... If I bring the idle up to about 1200 rpm the noise is a little less..

Often the stem of the exhaust valve gets covered with hard deposits which make the valve stick in the valve guide.

http://www.discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=72644

I did this and it works. But you have to rev the motor and pour a very small stream of water. Too much water can hydroblock the pistons and Fuqe the engine. If done properly steam will clean top of pistons, combustion chambers, valve heads and stems. I did it about 18 months ago and still good.
