Hey all,
I have a Series II AU falcon with the standard auto box and a heavy duty 2300kg towbar installed (which is occasionally used to full extent with a car trailer). I am quite interested in putting in a manual conversion to a T5 gearbox, but i'm concerned as to the reduced towing capacity on manual AU falcons. Can anyone confirm if the T5 could hold against a car-trailer, IE: will I be able to maintain my 2300kg towing capacity? Thanks, Thomas. |

I don't know why it is reduced.....but....you won't be towing in 5th....have to use 4th.
I towed a car from Geelong to here, with my ED with an EA T5, with 3.27 diff gears. I was sitting around 3,000 to 3,200 rpm in 4th at 110 kmh....towed really well. I was getting around 450km to a tank at that.

I towed a boat with the EL Fairmont when the T5 was in. I think the boat/trailer was about 1.7t with 4 people in the car and some tools. As cjh said, I towed in 4th most of the time, although when I got on the freeway it was in 5th until hill climbs. Fuel consumption went through the roof though...something like 400km/tank compared to my 600km. T5 has held up after doing that about 6 times.
