G' day all well what can I say but I am at my witts end with this I have changed plugs , dizzy , leads , iac valve , serviced engine, changed switch on power steering and to no avail. the car has 4.0 multipoint and is still hunting at idle and occasionally hickups and feels like it wants to stall at traffic lights in gear at idle. I have also noticed my fuel economy go down a fair bit so if anyone can throw me some more ideas and a possible solution it would be greatly appreciated

Assuming its a auto, does it only do it when in gear or in P and N too? Have you replaced fuel filter? Your gearbox or torque converter could be on its way out and placing more load on the engine whilst stopped, if it does it in P and N too it could be a vacuum leak, correct me if im wrong, just trying to throw ideas your way, cheers

Hey thanks it is auto and mostly when in park hunting idle but when in drive is when it occasionally feels like it wants to stall. The intake gasket has been checked also (no leaks) so I guess it is a case of checking all vac hoses not sure about fuel filter might just do that as well in case I missed it .Thanks for the tips and ideas sincerely appreciated as it is doing my head in lol... :D

Its all good, i know what its like to have a problem that you cant figure out do your head in - mechanics life - lol, if its doing it in park then it would almost certainly be a vacuum leak, firstly, check the one going from the intake manifold to the map sensor located on the firewall, pull it off and check the elbow as its prone to cracking, other than that i dont know any effective ways to check for a vacuum leak other than check all the hoses, and make sure theyre all connected, ive heard/read about people spraying brakleen over all the lines and if you hit a leak it supposedly increases engine rpm, but im not sure, never tried it, youll have to look into that or have a search on here about ways to find a vac leak, cheers
