Well, The G'box (expert) says that not only is Overdrive 'missing' but so is second. Funny, I had second when I last drove it. He says that he could 'find' both gears but to do so he would have to 'rebuild' the whole box. (how did I know THAT was coming. I can get a (2nd hand) 'checked' unit from the wrecker, and have that installed with new oil for $800.00.
Any ideas?????????

strewth man, not having much luck with the old beast are ya?

Are you able to install a new gearbox at all? I take it you arent that mechanically minded?
800 bucks is probably a good price - does it have a warranty?

shop around a bit do some calling and see what prices you get, that might be a good price or it might be a bit dear depending on what you find.
good luck :D

Saga ends??????????
A 'checked' and 'serviced' 2nd hand gearbox (with 90 day warranty) was fitted. Car drives well.
Should I reset the ECU and the TPS which I did before all of this started?

Thanks everyone. I had a new gearbox fitted and that fixed the problem.
The AU had a similar problem and I had a 'repair' done THREE TIMES, by **** Automatics, in Bris, and $2000+ it still isn't right. (They must think that I still have some $$$$ left).
Grrrrrrrrr!

most often repairing these boxes is not really worth it, we have replaced a box in a ea with a good second hand one and it was still going strong 4 years after installed till we took it off the road.

good second hand boxes for these cars are plentiful and reasonably cheap now, so it makes sense to replace than repair.

My '65 Mustang is jumping out of 2nd gear and there is loud 'rumble' when the foot depresses the clutch for too long, so I need to find someone who does T5 conversions.
Any ideas.
