Not long after I had to replace the Coil my EL Fairmont 6 now has a issue when driving it sorts of misses/flutters/flatspot or like when you start a carby car and it is cold. Only when you put your foot down to take Off (Not Planting the foot but a gentle take off). Not a issue when in Park with J3 Chip Installed
I removed the TI Performance J3 chip this morning as I was going to start playing with tunes and then I tried the car and it is now worse then with the chip in. It now does the same thing but worse in Park I have not taken it for a drive so unsure how bad it will be to drive. The J3 Does a good job of trying to mask that fault There is no issues with power, Fuel Economy is still good, Get easy 600k on a long trip. I am just wondering if the coil I used for a replacement has an issue or if there is something else causing it. I am just after some Ideas for now as I have not had time to sort it out. (Not a daily driver only driven on 400k plus trips) |

Are your leads on the right way, correct firing order?

Plug Leads are fine, The car drives fine except for the take off. It is like a flat spot or accelerator pump issue on a Holley carb.

Ok I had a mate n I have a look, I repalced the plug, Coil and still the same, The we covered the intake snorkel and presto when reved it was fine, So we thought TPS I tried another TPS and nope still the same, I am feeling it is a vacuum leak some were.

Ok I have a bit more information, I have HID Driving lights fitted and when I turn them on not everytime but sometime they cause the engine to have a miss like they compeltely remove the power from the ECU or something like that, Has anyone had issues with power cutting out when turning on there high beams ect.

I had same idle problems with my EL too, the idle control valve on the intake manifold mite be dirty? after a while it builds up heaps of carbon s**t, I cleaned it out with WD40 an compressed air bolted it back on and idle problem fixed straight away.
If that isn't it the intake manifold mite need tightening up somewhere or vacuum problem |

When I had a rough idle, it was due to a small vacuum leak. See if you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Get some aerosol can and spray around the intake manifold while the engine is idling. If engine revs up you have a leak some where.
Injectors can also play a role, but I would have thought that would affect the whole rev range. Check alternator/battery...a dying battery can cause electrical issues as the car is running off the alternator rather than battery.

I did the injectors, it ran real rough for a little bit at idle but then came good, I still have the hesitation on take off, it seems to onlymhave this issue once warmed up, when cold as in start the car and drive off no hesistation but once warmed up a bit and then take off it is there, i have changed the coil, injectors two lots of plugs, tightned the intake manifold, check for leaks using the aerosol trick and no no leaks, So still unsure of fault yet, Lucky for me it is not a daily driver.

So all this happened when you replaced the coil? Have you tried swapping with another one? May have gotten a dud coil maybe?

FIXED
I finally had a free weekend to work on my car and Not it is sorted, I changed the intake manifold gasket, it was not cracked or anything but while I was at it I removed the Dizzy cap and discovered a large amount of corrosion inside the cap,I cleaned the rotor button and the corroded pins and hey presto, No more hesitation on take off, the engine is even running smoother then it has for some time, Now I will be able to do some serious playing with my J3 chip and the auto tunes. |
