THANKS MATEE fa ya offer much appreciated the motor thats missing the bolts is a series2 AU the 'spare' is a series3 AU the one she drives is a series2 AU the one she will end up with is a series1 AU the motor missing bolts i bought fa me .... so where are the differances re bolts - series 1/2/3 ? |

au 1.2 and 3 use the same bolts, just a few are different lengths due to support brackets

Geez, this is getting complicated .
As suggested, go to a wreckers, with pen and paper, plus masking tape. Make a rough diagram, as you take the bolts out, number them on the diagram, label each bolt with the masking tape and that number. Then install them on your engine. Case dismissed, isn't it Other thing is too - isn't there one bolt that has sealant on the threads ?? Goes into a water jacket. Note that on your diagram - you'll also see the sealant on a 2nd hand bolt, not a new one.
