Hi Guys.have an EL Falcon that i have just replaced the power steering pump.after putting it back togehter and bleeding the system the steering is still heavy.any ideas ?

Did you follow the.correct procedur when bleeding power steering? Eg. Jack front of car up so both wheels are off ground, turning wheels left and right (not full lock tho) with Engine running?and have you topped up the fluid once bled? If so you may have a blocked hose

Thanks for the info Avatar,could it be likely the high pressure hose could be blocked or the return hose?

Could be either :/ the serpentine belt not slipping at all? And is the pump brand new or or 2nd?

serpentine belt is not slipping but the pump itself is from my old ef that was working fine

What was the fluid like that came out of the old pump? Clean?

yes i fluid looked clean and the correct colour

Did you bleed all the air out of them it may just ha e a bubble in the line somewhere? When you bled the ps did you leave the cap off?

Does it whir or whine or make any noise?

Jack it up so the front wheels are off the ground, then with the engine OFF, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock about 10 times, then check the fluid level.....if it went down, repeat.
When the fluid level is at the full mark, run the engine for about 30 secs, then switch off, and recheck level.

I was always taught by a few mechanics that you also have to prime the pump if its been emptied completely by roatating it backwards a few times, whilst full of oil obviously lol,
Just sharing my experience,

it definately was air in the system.i lifted up the front turned the wheel about 4 times with the car not running,then started the car and after two turns the steering returned to normal.thanks everyone for all your helpful tips
