Hi all
Now here is a serious question that will certainly create some debate.

Headscratching with the Mav. I really need to stop reading up on things.
As part of the rebuild of the Mav I have got myself a low km AU Series 2 175kw motor form a Fairlane. It will be running the full AU ECU and coil packs etc which will be tuned by a Quarterhorse..
I also have myself an Eaton M90 blower thanks to SWC and have seen what they have done with them in the states on the Explorers.

I am handy with the welder and the spanners so making manifolds and screwing motors together isn't a major hassle for me.

I am after a nice torquey motor for towing my camp trailer easily , but also for it to sound tough and go well enough to keep the drive to and from interesting with Sydneys P platers.

Basically what do people reckon will be the best bang for the buck. Build a 347 bottom end or fit up the Eaton?

I have spoken to my engineer and he has no issues passing the charger providing I can get it quiet enough and pass and emissions test. I am confident both can be done.
The truck is already engineered for the 5.0 that is currently fitted.
This is where I am scratching my head.

Remember Im talking bottom end only here as heads and cam would be done on the motor if a charger was fitted once it passed its emissions and enginnering regardless. I see it as the same cost both ways.

Being realistic by the time I fab up the manifold for the M90 and get it setup with a water to air intercooler , quiet exhaust with a 400 cell cat to pass emissions and have it engineered on a stock motor I cant see any change out of $3500 roughly. I understand that technically the M90 isn't big enough for a 5.0 but for my purpose it should work ok.

Then there is these 347 bottom end kits available.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221281855...84.m1423.l2661

I have a contact for machining and balancing and can screw it together myself. Once I get the kit , do the machine work , buy oil pump , studs , girdle etc I will be up around the same money as fitting the blower BUT would have a fresh bottom end and no requirement to do any further engineering. I also have the option available of buying an already built 347 bottom end from BG engines for $4k with a 12 month warranty.
One thing that is not negotiable is the fact it must be engineered. I wont do it any other way.

Because Im getting married next year , unfortunately doing both the blower and a stroker isn't an option. Its one or the other........................

For what Im after whats the collective thoughts of what I will get better results with for the dollar?
Cheers

Depends how you mount the blower? Is it a short snout Eaton you have?

Id go bottom end. Can always find the funds later for a pump. If you end up not being able to charge it at least you still have a stout 347 to haul the truck.

Pete it would be a valley mount.
The charger is one of the M90 from the 3.8 Mustang so the snout isn't super short but isn't massive either.

M112 :)

lucky you got height, once you clear injectors/rails the blower sits up pretty high.

That's what would end up on it eventually if I go the blown route. At this point in time it is not an available option but.

Ok Matt, that's going to be a fair bit of work to mount only to have a 90ci blower.
If you going to do the work I'd at least have a M112 from an '03 Cobra(not the Lightning one).
So, knowing these things, I say go the stroker.

Stroker with forgies, then you can boost it down the track if you so desire.

Wait for my motor to be built, take it for a spin the the TE and then make a decision based on have I picked up enough torque for you to warrant going down that track yourself.

Its only 5 weeks away now!!

I also owe you a spin of the fordrunner after its done. Maybe that might sway you in another direction.

The blower will still happen.
I just need to get my head back in a happier place once this injury and possible redundancy is sorted out and get back into it.
Hopefully it will be all sorted soon.
