Im looking at buying an el fairmont wagon n was wondering if anyone can tell me how much you can lower the rear before running into any problems? Will most likely be running 20s most of the time if that makes any difference

Depending on your offset and tyre size, I would say you will have trouble with your tailshaft before your tyres. Mine is lowered 3 inches (1.5" blocks on XR6 springs) and the diff bump stop is frequenctly in contact with the diff. I would go no more than 2-2.5 inches from Fairmont height for a daily.

This is my build thread here. The initial photos show it at XR height, which would be the equavalent of about a 1.5-2" drop for you.
http://www.fordmods.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=98916 The later photos show it with 1.5" blocks in the rear and (new) XR height springs with Pedders lowered shocks, which drop it around 30mm. Stock on 16's Lowered with 19's |

Doesnt seem as low as i expected, how come the wagons dont go anywhere near as low as the sedans?

Isnt there a guy on here that bagged an ea eb or ed wagon? The one im thinkin of sat pretty low

They come super high from factory, I have seen factory height wagons that have almost 100mm between wheel and guard in the rear. Plus they have long tailshaft which hits the floor as you lower the rear. The front is the same as a sedan so you can go as low as you like, I like my cars to sit level though so wouldn't want to go much lower. It would struggle to pass a height check even like that though.
Remember they have a really long wheelbase too. They are noticebly harder to get over speedhumps as the front wheel are off it before the rears get to it and it just bellies out. I have both an EL sedan and an EF wagon. The sedan is lower, but easier to drive. Ausedwagon's sits pretty low, but he has bags in the rear, plus a two piece tailshaft. That is really the requirement if you want to go any lower than mine |
