Hey everyone I'm new on the forum so please advise me if I'm posting this in the wrong spot but what I was wanting to know is, I have a Ford Fairmont Ghia EL 97' and I'm planning on putting a bit more power behind it soon firstly a cam, chip, cat, extractors and eventually a turbo setup.
I have read that the standard 4 speed auto that was produced for my car doesn't like a lot of power being pumped into it as it gets a bit warm even though mine has a cooler on it now it still ends up shifting quite roughly after running a while so I have a feeling it's on the way out anyway.
My question is would the standard 5 speed manual be able to handle more power than the auto and if so what exact components would I need to swap my auto to a manual e.g. wiring, bell housing etc?

Cheers.

Also I read that you can use the auto's ECU but with a resistor added, could I just get a J3 chip and tell them that I converted it to a manual so the ECU can cope?

theres some good articles on here man, the manual conversion is quite straight forward if your not scared of a challenge it can be done by yourself aswell i.e one man

T5 won't take much abuse with a Turbo attached.

A healthy btr4speed auto with a large cooler will take more power than the t5 will under the same conditions
