Just bought a 96 ef fairmont and the climate control buttons and display will not work I have read manual etc and stuff online would like to know the most efficient and cheapest way to fix, so to eliminate the problem and hopefully won't need to pull dash apart.

Narn, I had my climate control panel light go out about 18 months ago. Have a quick check of the fuses but it will probably be a blown light globe.
Get the globe from Repco not Ford dealer. Back then ford sold one for $9.70 while Repco sold them in a packet of two globes all for $3.50. The globe you want is a wedge globe 12 volt, 5 watt. There is a thread that explains in great detail how to remove the dash to do this job. There are photos added to show exactly what to do. It is not that hard to do, if I can do it anyone can do it. Thanks heaps mate I have seen that topic, saved in bookmarks just in case. But the screen is illuminated so I don't think it's the light and I have no idea which fuse it is lol. Buttons do nothing and no images on the display, it really sucks I'm in east coast Queensland it so bloody hot lol. Other than that the car is fantastic drives like a dream
