G'day guys.
I havint had a post for quiet sometime, because my ef ghia was written off some time ago.

I have just brought an EL XR8 '1998',
And I'm looking at doing some performance to it.
It currently has;
-2.5" cat back exhaust
-k&n pod filter (boxed in)
And I have a tickford snorkel I have to doctor a bit to make it fit.

I have read so far that it's already got the explorer manifold, 3.45 lsd, ecu is slightly different and the extractors are a better design.

I'm leaning towards getting some;
- high flow cats
-3" air intake pipe
-under drive pulleys?? (If so what brand)

P.S. I have done some searching already but couldn't find a lot on the series 2 el xr8s

Any other performance mods or recommendations would be greatly appreciated?
Love this site.

Hi,

I have the same car, I put some high flow cats and a 3 inch exhaust and there was a noticeable gain, I believe the 100 cell cats made the biggest difference here though. I put a bigger TB soon after that but really was still getting used to exhaust so didn't really notice any changes.
I did under drives next and it does feel like you do get something from them, but I had issues with voltage drop that annoyed me for a while so I removed them.

If it's auto I here guys are putting in 3.7 or 3.9 diff gears and a higher stall with good results.

At the moment I put the AU heads and different cam.

You can get the underdrives from summit racing, I believe there a 95 mustang style but you may have to elongate the holes on the water pump pulley.

Hope that was some help
Al

Go twin 2 and a quarter inch exhaust. BPT do underdrives that suit Falcon. Better than factory extractors and a 65mm throttle body and AU MAF. Then custom tune with a quarterhorse or a chip. A set of aftermarket alloy heads and cam would be the next step along with 1.7 roller rockers.

Auto or manual ?

It is an auto NLGHIA5.0.
I'm leaving the suspension at the standard height it is because on my old car I used to get exhaust knocking when I had a full car load.

Alby1, what kind of setup is your 3" exhaust.

I'm leaning towards 2.5" exhaust muffler then into hotdog?
Is that a good setup or should I go 3" I don't want an drone cause it's an auto..

Thanks for the feed back so far

3 inch tends to drone, and 2.5 isn't big enough. Its probably smaller than the factory pipes on XR's.

Twin 2 and a quarter is the way to go.

If its an auto you can fit a shiftkit, higher stall or 3.7 or 3.9 diff gears.

When it was 3 inch it was 100cell cats to long 2.25 inch twin pipes just before the diff, into a muffler than over diff, than 3 inch single mandrel bends through resi and out, didn't really drone, was happy with the sound. Now I have same cats with twin 2.5 to two seperate hooker mufflers, and twin 2.25 mandrel bends over and out, no resi's. This is my favorite, dirty old school idle and rasp, however still quiet enough for high way.
