Hi

The pic above shoes the standard arm fitted into the correct hole, front. The EL XR arms would mount into the lower rear hole.

In these pics the std arm is on the left and the XR arm is on the right. You can see how the XR arm is longer by 20mm and is kinked at the diff end to clear the axle tube due to the lower mounting point.

Hope that helps

It should be noted that the EF had the same length upper arms as the EL XR, but were not kinked at the end.

just a question guys, I've got a NL, (not the tickford version) its lowered, does that mean i need to change where the bolts go though that hold the upper control arm???

Is that what the over two holes it used for??? for lowering the car?

Hi Laticia

Unless you actually have the EL XR arms, do not alter where the std arms bolt to. It would mess with the pinion angle big time.

There are three holes in the pic. The top hole is actually not fully round, and is in the normal location for previous E series. The front lower hole, is where the std EL upper control arm mounts too. The rear lower hole is designed for the EL XR arms to go in as they are lower and assists in correcting the pinion angle.

If you can source the EL XR upper arms, it would be a worth while upgrade.

Cheers

these holes are for corrrecting the pinion angle after lowering the reaer of the car. if you have lowered your car you can use the xr hole with the standrad trailing arm from what Ive been told. one of our members here, "shav" has done this on his au. i need to do it on mine as the pinion angle is incorrect and vibrates badly on decel. has ruined a few sets of bearings now.

thanks amatuers who did my diff.

so, cos my car has been lowered, I should use one of the other holes in the upper traliing arms? .... what ones would I use??

- Also, which ones are the XR holes??

Thankyou .

I disagree here strongly.

Your pinion angle would be much worse in the wrong direction if you tried to put the Std EL arms in the rear lower XR hole.

You can try it if you like, but you will find that the Pinion will be at an awful angle.

In addition the XR arms are kinked at the diff end to allow for full travel of the diff without the axle housing fouling on the upper control arm.

Shav's thread confirms my own opinions.

He originally used the std arms in the lower rear (XR) hole and had bad vibration. He fixed it by moving the std arms into the front hole, correcting the pinion angle to the std position.

If Shav was to fit XR upper arms into the lower rear hole, it would improve the situation again.

From Shav's thread

ok here is the situation.

In new position.

Diff now in new position

As you can see its in a far better position and seems to sit straighter

and the verdict is:

we have a winner!!! Took the car for a little drive up the main road, and what do ya know, no vibration, smooth as a baby's bum.

Im so relieved its not funny.

For anyone looking to do this mod, just be real careful where the upper trailing arm is positioned and check the position of the diff.
