Some suggestions on what oil would be best for a Gli 4 litre?
Running semi synth valvoline durablend 10W/40 which is what the mechanic has put in at last service. I do quite a bit of stop start driving, the car has done over 220,000 Kms . Cheers |

For high mileage sixes up to EL, 20W50 works well. Valvoline Durablend is good oil - it would be safe to keep using it, but I would go to the 20W50.
I use top-quality synthetics in my 310,000km EF - Amsoil (until it became too expensive) and Royal Purple (both with ZDDP) - on 10,000km+ change intervals. Have done so since I bought the car at 185,000kms. The longer interval offsets the higher cost per litre, so it costs no more in the end. Just less time spent changing oil. But I do run a top quality oil filter too (20-25 micron absolute), so the oil stays cleaner. It's been over 60,000kms since I last took the rocker cover off. Took it off today, and the engine is spotless inside. You can actually see where the oil coming off the rockers and timing chain has cleaned the rocker cover. No oil burning, no smoke, no scoring, pitting or other abnormal wear. And I don't baby the engine - I hit 5800-5900 rpm at the drags and occasionally on the road. I think of a good synthetic oil as liquid insurance.

I use penrite oil. I said for you to use HPR 15 because for people on a budget but myself in my engine i use the Penrite Racing 15 (15w50) it has full zinc. Zinc is good for roller cams.

It's the other way....flat tappet type cams need Zinc as the anti-scuff agent. Mitsubishi 6G72 and 6G74 with the 24 valve heads have the same idea as the falcon with the roller at the cam end of the rocker.
