When my BA XR6 ute changes from 2nd to 3rd, the change is quite rough. It revs a little longer then hits into the next gear. Only seems to do it once the car is warm as its not as noticeable when you first get into the car in the morning and drive.

Could this be an oil problem or something more complicated?

yeah com'n all u experts i have the same problem mines a BF ute it sort of hesitates and over revs 2-300 rpm on the upshift until it warms up then changes are a lot smoother. it's a 4 speed.

any idea's ?

S5 solenoid going, my el doing it but in all gears!, very annoying, quoted $450 to fix, diy for around $200, hardest part is dropping the trans valve body.
