i have both 4 speed sitting there just wondered if they have different gear ratios ,because i can just take the bell housing of and fit the better suited box for my 3.9 ratio diff

AU V8 & 6 cyl Autos are the same ratio. I would venture a guess that the BA 4 speed autos are the same.

the ratios may be the same...

but i would bet the input shafts are different
the torque converters could be as well!

Output is the same.

My 3V and 4 speed were moved into a station wagon, using the original 6cyl wagon tailshaft.

when you changed motor over did you change only the engine bay harness ?

We just swapped the engine bay loom, that being said, you can't. There is a difference in the looms. It has someone to do with the BBM actuator. The 6 cyl had it, the donor V8 did not. In my case, the extra wires are still in the car, just tucked under the PCM.
