Just a few questions
What are your thoughts on minidisc? What minidisc head units are available? I currently have one but I need an upgrade, as my current one has only got 1 pre-out (kenwood RX-691MD). I am looking for a unit that has at least 3 pre-outs. Will I be able to keep my current stacker (kenwood KDC-C669)? I am wishing to keep the MD feature. Any help would be appreciated Chris.

My thoughts on minidisc.
I never liked them as i cant see people, especially me going to the shop and paying for a minidisc with music. I dont know what it is about them because there is just something about them. i think its my way of thinking that i am paying $30 and am getting a 6cm piece of plastic, $$$$:size ratio. Cheers. And dont panic because i dont know what i am on about either. |

minidiscs didnt take off here as well as they did in japan when they came out. i use them as well as DATs (digital audio tape) in my studio for backing up vocal tracks and stuff.
i wouldnt bother with a MD headunit, id just go CD, or even one with a SD card or memory stick input cos then you only need ya computer to put music on them, but if you use MD you gotta get a MD recorder seprate. (either a recording MD walkman or a stand-alone unit) as for genral stuff about the minidisc format, i could tell ya a bunch of stuff, but it'd be boring and make me sound like a nerd

I have all the seperate MD units and I already have a MD head unit in the car. I am just looking for something better as I need the extra RCA's for a second amp.
I figured that most of the MD stuff was Japanese. My current head unit is Japanese, so I already have the band expander for it I wanted to keep the MD feature without getting another one sent from Japan. Everyone that I have tried locally has told me that they don't currently have any and that they haven't has any for ages. I have since found something that interests me on eBay.

in my books i reckon there no good. if it were me id spend the money on an mp3 capable HU and a spindle of cd-r's

I guess its a little more expensive, but why not grab a deck that supports a MD changer that you can sit in the boot or somewhere else. I know kenwood used to make these as I had one, not sure about the 3 RCA outs though. Perhaps check out the kenwood website, as they are the only company that I have heard of that did minidiscs. Just for the reckon I reckon they go alright!

why not just get any h/u and just use one of them 3mm headphone jack to rca adapters and plug a md player into any h/u with 3 rca outs?

Back in '89, the concept of MD was a great thing for in car use with alpine making a nice 4xMD single DIN tuner/changer. Unfortunately the format was bagged by the audiophiles of the world (not relevant for in car use back in '89) and it didn't take off. No doubt this failure was helped by Sony's refusal to do much with the format, like provide recording software and computer connectivity.
It took them almost 15 years to move their 'a r s e' on this format and was no doubt forced on them by the popularity of MP3 players. Best way to put it was that they missed the boat with this MD format 
Today i wouldn't support MD in any way, instead, buy a DVD head unit capable of reading MP3's off a DVD disk and forget the idea of a changer
