Next order of business.. is the use of sealant necessary on the Thermostat housing base to cylinder head gasket? If so which is recommended? Blue RTV?
{DESCRIPTION} By the looks of things the was sealant used on the old gasket, but not sure if it was the same as the new felt gasket I have now. Cheers guys, Callum |

Use the gasket if you have one. Ultra blue will be fine if not.
Just scrape the old s**t off first. |

And do it when you fit the inlet manifold - the lifting plate uses the top bolt of the thermostat housing along with the upper bolt of no1 inlet runner.

Put a smear of rtv blue on both sides of the new thermostat housing gasket anyway, i always have and never had a drama. Better be safe than find out you have a leak there in 20 mins..

+1
I've mostly used blue (and twice the black toyota sealant) the gaskets don't last long on m ine because I'm often pulling the housing on and off doing the intake manifold or whatever at the time..

Check the flatness of the face with a ruler, they do warp. You can put some emery paper down on a flat surface and run the housing on it in a figure of 8 motion.
