Hey guys, trying to do the resistor trick in the guide here for the manual conversion.

I've got a 97 EL Fairmont Ghia, the loom looks different than whats in the guide:

There are two looms going into the one and you can't separate them.

Its the only thing stopping the car from being able to be driven.

Thanks guys.

Dude the 10mm bolt on top needs to be undone to separate.

LOL!

Thanks much mate.

Was like WTF why wont it come apart.

Anyways that guide, is that part where it says to solder the resistors in, at the gearbox end or up top here?

Or can we do it at the ECU end in the kick panel?

Gearbox end mate. Or you can cut them at the ecu and do it I guess? But less chance of f**k too much up if you do it at the gearbox end

In part 5 of the guide on here we're having trouble getting the loom out of the car, it seems to be different.

Car is an EL Fairmont Ghia.

In the first picture, my car doesnt have that round and square plugs, its only got that one big one i put up the pics of.

Gearbox end is the same but the other end is different at the engine it seems, can the resistors be done somewhere down on the gearbox end?

yes mate, follow the wires down to the gearbox, where you disconnected the Round plug and 4 Wire Square plug off the auto box itself, these are the two plugs you use, as I said to you in the conversion guide thread, 4 wire plug is your reverse and neutral switch, and the large Round plug with the 12 or so wires is the one you need for the resistors, cut the wires about 4cm up off the Round plug (the ones you need for the resistors) and solder the resistors in, if you leave 4cm on the Plug side you can easily rejoin the wire if you f*ck up and cut the wrong one.

once you have finished cutting and soldering, wrap it all up in electrical tape neatly and cable tie it to the gearbox.

Thanks much mate, this is the plug I'm assuming you are talking about?

Quote:
My colours were, 1.2k resistor beteen Yellow&black, white stripe.
And the 6.8k beteen Purple, light green stripe & black, white stripe.
4 wires total.

Ok so cut yellow, join it with black with the white stripe with the 1.2k resistor?

Cut purple with a light green stripe and join it with black with the white stripe with the 6.8k resistor?

Is there two black with white stripes or something or do they both go into the one? I'm confused.

yeah that's the plug mate,

uhm there was 2 black with white stripes on mine.

BUT, according to this wiring diagram for EL, (see pic) the Black/White Stripe's join together further up from the Temperature Sensor and Gear Select Switch. so as far as im concerned.. that's just an earth.. so you should be able to join both resistors to the ONE Black/White, and just have the other ends of the resistors going to yellow, and purple/lightgreen. but as I said, just leave about 4cm left of wire in the back of the round plug, so incase you cut the wrong one, you can rejoin it.

(PX in image is Purple Green)
