did not ford actually have a part made that u could buy to fix this issue?

i would plate both the inside and outside of the firewall!

i used a thicker piece of flat [5mm ? ] on the outside which helps ta spread the load over a larger area & doesn't "flex" like the flimsy firewall plus i didn't have to remove anything as the firewall padding had fallen off - eventually had to do the usual repairs to the clutch pedal pin

also the EA/EB possibly ED need reinforcing at the clutch pedal bracket - dunno about the lata models..... so check the pin area fa metal fatigue

3mm is enough. You can see the reinforcement plate I made to TROYMAN's design. The photos aren't on the tech doco any more. Click this and scroll down a bit http://www.fordmods.com/the-garage-f53/ev-s-xr6-5-speed-t99478-300.html

Would be pretty much the same idea though, with some slight changes I would imagine.

the thread has been edited and pics have been restored.
the plate will fit au it just needs about 20mm cut off the left side of the plate..

im actually using the original plate from the doco on my last 3 cars and now fitted to my au xr8.

If the piece on the outside of the firewall is welded on it might be fun trying to remove it. Have a look at above mentioned thread, and get a plate made up. I had similar problems with mine cracking and then the pedal box bending not long after.

Some pics are on my build thread of how I got mine made and how I fitted it.

This will be the easiest fix... if the already done repairs are easy enough to remove...
