My 1999 XR6 has developed a LOT of suspension noise in the last few months.
It's done 270,000km and been generally well maintained. The main sounds are creaks when accelerating away from standstill. Front left and rear left mainly. If I accelerate gently, it's more of a creak. If I accelerate harder, it's more of a clunk or knock. Any ideas where to start looking first - most likely to be shock mount bushes, or suspension bushes? Hard to know when I'm under the car or at standstill, and hoping someone else has had experience sorting these noises out.

If its front and back possibly the shock bushes are shot.

Or is there a way of testing them with a pry bar or heavy screw driver? Hard to get under the car today, we're being hit by the remnants of a tropical cyclone. Bit wet and wild out there...

If it happens at take off then you should be able to push on the shocks and they will move. If they dont id look at other bushes. Has this just started or gradually? If they do move try tightening the bolts to them if they are loose, if they arent loose but the shocks move replace the bushes.
