hi, i put a xw fuel tank into a xd .
xw fuel sender resistance. xd fuel sender capacitance ?. or voltage ? in the process of converting the xw sender to read on the xd dash. does any body know what the xw fuel sender resistances are from empty to full ? and the capacitance or voltage readings from a xd sender unit from empty to full ? mark. |

XW is resistance sender, and XD is a capacitance sender.
Three options - one is to find an XD Sender that is the right depth, and use that with the XW sender. The XD Wagon one (and XE) may suit The alternate is to get an XW fuel gauge, and move/modify its electronics over to the XD. Be warned though - you may need to loose your low fuel light Third option is to look the XW Sender resistance, and the EA/EB/ED Sender resistance and see if they are close : if they are, the electronics (gauge, motor etc) from an EB or similar might be easier to move over. Worth noting that there are two ranges for fuel senders in E Series - EA, EB Series one, and I think it changes at EB II through to EL but Im not 100% sure where the change is Nigel |

XW
Empty: 73 ohms Half: 25 ohms Full: 10 ohms XD Empty: 0-15 ohms (0.2v) Half: 155-200 ohms (2.6v) Full: 280-300 ohms (4.2v) Note: Unlike the XW sender which sends impedance level to the gauge, the XD sender sends a small voltage to the gauge, so the XD gauge operates on voltage, derived from resistance of the 12 volt current, converted from the capacitance type sender (crazy, yes). It's a big problem to convert the signal as the XW ranges from high to low impedance from empty to full, and the XD ranges from low to high impedance from empty to full. Would be easier to adapt an XD XE XF (all the same) sender to the XW tank. |

Actually thats a perfect use for one of the LPG Gauge interfaces...
The ones that convert a 0-90 sender to The XDEF Fuel Gauge. They used to be very common - now not so much. I chucked on in the bin about 2 weeks ago Nigel |

Hi,
The Wagons and Utes had a metal tank ( from memory ) so you could weld in the mount for the XD sender. I knew someone who did this to fit an XD cluster in an earlier model Ford. The sedan also had a taller sender from what I remember.
