Hey guys. So my XR8 needs new valve guides (surprise surprise!) Any way I was just wondering what other guides people used? Im not real keen on genuine ones but if I have to I will. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

was it only the early ones that had guide issues...

i though the whole head was redesigned to get around this issue..

how did u diagnose that u needed guides with the heads still on the car...
have u got the heads off now...

i thought this problem showed up at quite low kays...how many ks has yours done...have they been replaced before...

i thought this was usually fixed under warantee...

Well it minced a big end bearing so its in pieces and is getting rebuilt. I pulled a few valves out to just to inspect the seats and what not and they seemed a bit loose in the guide to me. I have dropped them off to my mechanic / head machinist to see what he thinks about it and will decide based on his decision. I'm basically trying to gather as much info as I can because not many people down this way have done much with the 5.4's before, and aren't real sure on which way to go about it. Its done about 190,000 kms and from what I can gather the last 90,000 have been hard ones. The previous owner was a bit rough. It had the tensioners done under warranty but that was about it

I know orger engines in bayswater were doing the warantee work on these...they did thousands of them...

I think ford changed the head design and those would be the heads id look for...

If u call orger im sure they would sort u out...

Let us know how it goes..

I've got a set of FRPP C Head's (same basic design as the BA heads, just with CNC porting by Livernois in the US) on a 4.6 based Alloy block 5L. I'll have to dig through the build thread to find info on the valve guides, but I think they are K Lined bronze guides.

Not a fan of the k line guides...I dont think they last very long...

Reco shops seem to love them as its easy work for them as all they do is ream out the old guide and squish a k line in...

To be honest, I'm not even sure what they are, as I got the engine completely assembled.
