Sooo last couple days my car seemed to wind a bit before firing. now it wont crank at all not starting. would this be starter motor?

Whilst holding the key on start, tap the plastic trim above the Park Brake handle firmly.....and if the car starts, then there is a problem with the Smartlock module......my ED did this....I have since made it push-button start.
