When will ford be releasing a new iPhone 5 compatible cable for the fg?

Chances are they won't. Have you got the FG or FG2? Few people have said the usb to lightning provided with the iphone 5 works. If you haven't got the usb plug and just the ford provided cable an adaptor should work. Apple has some late Oct as far as I know for one.

Just FG, I have the integrated 30pin connection. Was hoping to just avoid getting a apple converter and go straight to a proper ford cable with the lightning connection.
Bugger... Oh well... Have to order myself one then :/

you should be able to just use the aux function with playing music just use a cable from the aux in the car to the headphone socket on the phone (im guessing it still has the normal headphone socket since i havent seen one before)

I can, and have been doing that... But aux doesn't give even half the quality of sound. Plus doesn't charge my phone :/
I've tried a few different conversion cables... Non of them work :/ would be much nicer if ford spent a tiny amount of $ to develope and release a lightning connection.

technically its a ipod interface, so they wont redo the cable just for a phone as the ipod still uses the 30 pin connector

I have been using an apple adapter with an aftermarket extension cable from the USA which actually works with new apple updates which were supposed to stop aftermarket cables
