Hi all. Just a slight issue. After driving the car after reaching operating temperature, say I pull in somewhere quick, turn off the engine and then jump back in to start the car it will kick over, rev then stall. Then it starts, revs and hunts up and down several times before finding itself. What do you think it could be? Thanks for your help.

Sticking ISC possibly?

have you checked the base timing, 30 deg @ 1500,and do a quick check of the pip -eye in the dizzy by pulling out the dizzy

also while you have the dizzy out click it to run and grab the shaft and spin it in your fingers and see if you can here a steady clicking sound that indicates the TFI is working, because the tfi can get heat damaged and not work properly

After a few months, and slowly putting the Fairlane back together, I managed a KOEO, KOER and V8 balance test. All a pass with the first test, the KOER showed fault codes 411 and 412. I pulled the ISC off and gave it a clean, wasn't to dirty. Put it back together, started the car and ran the tests which resulted in a 111 pass during both tests...
But after a hot run, it was still hunting after a hot start... Hmmm. Not sure what else to check. Have new plugs, leads, dizzy components, injectors... Maybe it's just the way it is. Thinking maybe too much fuel is getting to the engine causing it to flood slightly. But it's a new fuel pump too. As mentioned earlier, I ran the V8 balance test which was interesting as I've never managed it before. It took a few minutes possibly up to 5 or 6 minutes but rather a code 90 for a pass i got code 70, which apparently means the engine rpm on the 7th cylinder performed outside the expected engine rpm speed. I noticed each time the ecu cut fuel to each cylinder during the test, the engine was missing but didn't think the engine rpm audibly went outside a particular speed on the 7th cylinder check. But obviously the ecu thought otherwise. Maybe this is related to the hunting after a hot start...... Thoughts? Cheers. |
