There is no torque setting for the nut... It is tightened to achieve a predetermined preload on the bearings...

Preloads are (for AU live axle but would apple to EL i'd think (same diff))

New Bearings
With oil seal: 1.4-2.4Nm
Without oil seal: 1.4-2Nm

Old Bearings
With oil seal: .7-1.2Nm
Without oil seal: .7-1Nm

Cheers,
Tim

I get the impression people who know how to do it, do it by feel... Otherwise you use the spring gauge as per the book... Never had a go personally... Best left to the people who know how to do it...

Also to the OP... You need to replace that collapsable washer you know? Must be changed everytime that pinion nut is loosened... It helps determine the preload as it collapses...

Cheers,
Tim
