Hi,
An advantage of doing this is the same engine number for rego. I have seen a Toyota push-rod engine with a factory DOHC head. Many motorbikes have an extra spark, ( like firing 2 at once ) and it works fine. At the end of the exhaust stroke, so it wont backfire. I thought there was a DOHC aftermarket head made for the EA ? Interesting project though, I always like it when someone does " what cant be done " With a 3.1 block ( shorter stroke I thought ? ) It would make good power / revs without a Turbo. Oil may be an issue with continuous high Revs, I remember reading that they changed the Oil pump type for the extra 500 revs of the new engine to maintain proper lubrication

turned out cutting and shutting the DOHC sump to suit e-series wasn't as impossible as was widely believed. so this project didn't need to be completed - with a lot of machining work it would have been possible but not worth the effort (when the sump mod was possible).
Had it turned out the sump couldnt be modified for clearance i would have continued down this path.

I think you have given up too easily trying to put a DOHC head on a SOHC
Because the Holden Boys use Ford SOHC heads on their 186 blocks now. they used to use 250xflows but OHC is more power. this is the 250xflow setup

holy s**t, i had heard of the 250xflow trick before (but didnt 100% believe it). it would be a ridiculous amount of work to do either of those conversions. i bet NONE of the head studs or oil/water galleries realy line up on one of those

Exposed cam drive looks like a bit of work is required to get these to fit.

Definitely not, i would expect that even a lot of "professional" engine re builders wouldn't want to build one of these (or what i was working on with the falcon motors) it reeks of "old school engineer" to me. if fezlane hadnt managed to modify his DOHC sump to fit i would have pushed on with the project and started getting machining done.

Pity they were so expensive. Could have been a lot of them running around by now.
