Hi, I'm looking at messing with this via J3 - a few of queries on this:
The guidelines from TI Performance refer to spark base, sea level and altitude tables. 1. How does the ECU determine "Load" in these tables? 2. How does the ECU determine when to change from the sea level (or altitude) spark table to the base spark table? It looks like the sea level vs altitude is determined by barometric pressure reference. As I understand it V8 cars don't have an external MAP sensor, so (3.) is it the case that the ECU has a pressure sensor on board for this? Any advice on this would be much appreciated! Cheers, Simon |

I've established so far that:
1. Load can be determined by reading the MAF voltage to get kg/hr from the MAF transfer function, dividing that by theoretical air charge. Since Load=Load% in my case, this is further divided by Peak Load. 2. There seems to be a practice of making Sea Level, Altitude and Base spark tables the same for EEC tuning mods. No idea yet on whether there is BP pressure sensing on board... |

Further, it looks like the spark tables use Load rather than Load%, so I can determine the load for spark tuning from MAF voltage via the MAF transfer function without reference to Peak Load. |

EB1's had a barometric pressure sensor and probably some USA cars. Heard later model cars used some other function to decide what table to use but really it's easiest to just set them the same (some are from factory anyway).
I think you're basically right about the load stuff, although what you've said is the volumetric efficiency technically but they'd be similar. Think there is some additional stuff in the calculation but not too sure...if you have a quarterhorse you can log load anyway, so who cares!

Thanks shyan - Yes I've adjusted my Peak Load function to reflect what I think is the new VE for my combo, and will look at adjusting further to compensate for the effects of the 30lb/hr MAF that I'm using.
I haven't looked into QH - sounds like it can be used in conjunction with J3? |

Moates Quarterhorse is a much better chip, allowing live tuning as well as data logging with the V8's http://www.moates.net/quarterhorse-for- ... l?cPath=63 http://www.moates.net/tunerpro-rt-v5-p-68.html?cPath=63 http://www.moates.net/binary-editor-201 ... l?cPath=63 If you didn't want to deal with Moates direct, try Bullet Performance Racing http://www.bulletperformanceracing.com. ... dware.html https://bulletperformanceracing.com.au/ ... blank.html Also has a package on Ebay which is quite good http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Binary-Edito ... 4f2&_uhb=1 |

J3 is good and cheaper, but I'd recommend a quarterhorse too. Makes things much simpler and you actually know what the ECU is doing instead of assuming it is doing what you tell it!

If you plan on tuning a few different cars you can use the 1/4 horse for real time tuning and once you are happy with your final tune you can dump it onto a J3.

Actually it is. Pull it out and your tune goes back to stock.
