Hi all
Ive got au2 xr8 with irs making a really bad chattering noise.
Ive just changed the diff oil and going by the castrol website
It recommends 80w 140 oil to replace it.
Ive used 75w 140 and a diff additive also. I tried it with nulon g70 additive. It was making the noise even without the additive too.
Any suggestions on what oil or additive to use?
Cheers

more than likely if its chattering with no mater what additive you use, I would say the lsd cone are warn and have bottomed out in the hemisphere and needs rebuilding..

I dont think its that. It was ok on saturday morning and changed the oil at work and now its chattering and clunking. I know VZ commodores need a additive for the same thing. Ive never seen a solid axle do this with a oil change but several irs diffs in holdens do.

Our local Ford dealership has had good success fixing most noisy LSDs with Redline Synthetic:

It's all I use i both my XR6s, before and after diff rebuilds, and have never had a problem.

Alternatively, you can add just the friction modifier to your existing diff oil:
http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=41&pcid=4

Here is their Australian office:
