I have a fault code saying hego 2 is always lean. which is hego 2? and what is the cause/ fix?

its a wideband oxygen sensor(they are in the exhaust pipe on the engine side before the cat,2 for a v8) that has expired,if you have more than 1 it is usually good practice to replace all of them in your system,usually they are bosch 4.2 the newer cars are starting to use 4.9 ,the good news is they are on ebay to help you do some pricing .

It's a narrow band sensor actually.
What is the actual fault code number you have? |

I cant remember the code off the top of my head with out the book for the code reader but the book says hego2 always lean
|

Ok it was 176. the system is always lean due to faulty sensor, cold sensor or leaky exhaust manifold.
Now when I got it most of the manifold bolts had bottomed out before tightening up on the mainfold so some had extra washers and some didnt. I was told to get them fixed asap as orders a set of 3/4 inch long bolts from the states and fitted them as soon as I could but maybe the gaskets were damaged. The only other code the car spat out engine related was 116. |

Ok ta, it's your left HEGO.
116 is ECT out of range or is erratic. It could a combination of the ECT and a slightly old HEGO that's causing this or, you may have an exhaust leak on the left side too. |

Ok well I had some hego laying around and one was akmost new and it was lucky put on the left. The ECT is where exactly because I have a feeling I didnt replace the right one as I replace the sensor on the metal pipe off the back of the water pump I think it is? As for a manifold leak I an not aware of one since replacing the bolts.

Hi
I am having a few problems getting my car to start. I have found that the fuseable link for the O2 sensors was blowen. Replaced it but then motor would not even crank over. Took the new link out checked it, OK, (But Hot) and then tried again car would crank over. Still wont start tho. Seems when the link is in this is somehow causing the car not to crank. I know these sensors determine the fuel miix ratio. I am guessing that one of the sensors has shorted out and have ordered 2 replacements. But looking at the schematics this link only heats them up so im guessing the car should still start without them. Any thoughts. Its a EL XR8. |
