I have a set of Pacemaker 4480 on my engine. I have just bought a set of Pacemaker 4499.Would anyone know if the 4499 collector flange is in the same position as the 4480 when fitted ?

but why go from 80's to 99's? 80's sound a heap better

Thanks champ that's what i wanted to hear.
I am changing from 4480 to 4499 because the 4480 has a crack on number 6 cylinder at the merge cone. It's been there from day one. Not happy when i got them ceramic coated aswell. Now it's getting worse. I have spoken to Chris at Best Mufflers about the difference between the two (just to clear a myth about the two). He told me the 4480 is for top end power made for racing hence Competition. The 4499 is an all round extractor low to mid little up high. The 4499 will suit me as i drive my car everyday but i don't want to loose power either. The 4499 are off getting ceramic coating at Competition Coatings.

I've used both, there really isn't a heap of difference. Biggest difference I noticed was throttle response was much better on 4480., 4480 might have even been marginally better down low. The only difference really is the 4480 has 3 secondaries instead of 2, and is a 'tuned' design. Just cause they're called competition doesn't mean they're top-end only...the lengths and diameters are similar so there shouldn't be a huge difference. How come you didn't just weld up the crack?

OK. Update. The biggest difference I have noticed between the two is the 4499 are quieter at idle.
I also have noticed more throttle response low to mid. The afr's on my wide band seem to be alot steadier. Only been on for a few days now. Time will tell. The reason i didn't get them welded is because i wanted to try the 4499 paceys. If you know me there is one thing about me, i am not a tight a** i will spend money to do it right for my car. In saying that i am a battler and work for my money so i do things in time and stages to do it right. I also LOVE my Ford. I bleed Blue. I am getting them welded now and putting the 4480 up for sale. Make a reasonable offer if anyone is interested.

how old are your 4480's? I had 2 sets crack on me and I called pacemaker up. They made the 3rd set with 1 and 6 primaries made out of stainless and then I got them ceramic coated. Haven't had any problems with them since. Pacemaker know they crack there as well

I have had them for approx. 1.5 to 2 years on my car but i noticed the leak approx. 1-3 months after installing them. The crack was on number 1 cylinder pipe at the merge cone. I think i have read in some post that it has happened to a few blokes, only the 4480 pacey's. I am very happy with the 4499 at the moment.

I have 4499's and my old man had 4480's for a while, now 4499's... The 4480's were a b**ch to do up and get tools onto the bolts... I asked the speedway guys and they said tuned length is all about top end power and they've seen it on the dyno... The told me untuned extractors pick up better at low rpms... Only better than pacey's is the JMM's with the super long secondaries... You need to modify your exhaust to fit the cat in with them...
Cheers, Tim

I agree. Tune length extractors have always been for top end use. Even back at the old school days of the Cleveland & Windsor engines.

Most V8 guys will tell you 4>1 is for top end, and tri-y (tuned) are for a wider power band.
Then 180 degree pairing (same as 4480) is another kettle of fish altogether. The 4480's are tuned length but also have differently paired cylinders. (one pulse per secondary every 360 crank degrees) |

Cheers, Tim Id like to see the dyno results of the JMM vs the Paci 4480's the most powerful NA6's usually run the 4480's

My brother had the JMM extractors with complete exhaust system (ALL JMM). I do remember the very, very long pipe work on the extractor. Sounded very quiet but he recons it made a HUGE difference in performance. My brother's car had intake and JMM complete exhaust system only (no cam or head work). He swears by them due to the results.
They recon the Hurricane extractors for the BA series are the best but when you look at them they too have the very long pipe work.

The JMM's would bring torque on down low like nothing else but... Long secondaries give you the out of the turn torque... Or so I've been led to believe having never had a set myself... Cheers, Tim
