Hi Folks,

I have a BA XR6T and every now and then the brake assistance doesn't work for a while usually it comes back after about 30 seconds and everything is fine again..

I've checked the hose that runs from the intake to the booster for cracks or leaks and found nothing.

If it happened all the time I'd think the diaphragm in the booster was naffed.. but the vast majority of the time it works perfectly.. then you will hit the brake one day and there are almost none to speak off. last time I came close to hitting the car in front of me so I want to get it sorted.

Has anyone had this happen to them? intermittent booster assist I mean?

The engine is not reving when it happens either, because I'm obviously trying to decelerate at the time. So I imagine there is a vacuum were there should be.

I think I'll get a new booster just in case.. but since it's not losing fluid and the ABS and everything else works fine it almost has to be the booster right? Can anyone think of anything else it could be?

regards

Frank

no idea about the turbos do they have a 1 way valve to stop positive pressure getting the booster?
or is the vac tube for the booster before the turbo?

could mount a small elec vacuum pump instead?

what about the seal at the booster for the vac line is that cracked at all?

The pickup for the brake booster vacuum is on the engine side of the throttle butterfly.. so it would still get vacuum much of the time.. I believe there is a check valve somewhere yes.. don't know where it is though.. perhaps it's in the white fitting on the booster that the hose goes onto?
It might be worth adding a vacuum tank to it.. or an electric pump as they do in the mondeo's.

Ford did a recall on some falcons because the checkvalves stopped working.. might be time to see if I can find mine and clean it up.

This looks like I need:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-FORD-BA-BF-FALCON-BRAKE-BOOSTER-VACUMN-VALVE-REVISED-TYPE-/300725368126

but it doesn't say if its for the turbo or not.
I've written to ask.
