I have a problem with ba ignition, in morning starts straight away but if you turn off it will not start again unless you wait about 2hrs ignition barrel seems to have no pressure when key turned from red dash lights to start motor, could this be the ignition barrel that is causing this problem diagnostic computer cant find any faults? Any help will be greatly appreciated cheers. Ps. How do you fix above problem do you have to swap ignition barrel?

spring tension is in ignition switch not key and barrell- steer column needs to be replaced - use key and barrell from original column - BUT normally doesn't stop it starting - is smartshield light staying on - move gear shift in case inhibitor switch - check ECU relay - check for faulty starter, does it click at all when it fails ??

Take the cover off the bottom of the column and look at the back of the barrel where all the wires are.

very likely that the back of the barrel has started to come out. The black plate with the wires crimps into the back of the barrel only sometimes they work themselves out again.. you can push it back in and re-crimp it.. but if it's out enough to lose start the two ball bearings are unlikely to be in the right spot anymore.. better to pull it all the way off and reassemble it properly.. it isn't to fiddly.

Also, you can repair the spring loading on start too if you are keen and handy with tools.

I did it to mine and you can see photos and video here:
