possibly a short in the cable going from the dash to the rear sender unit in your fuel tank.

#1
To remove the dash you remove two little black bits of plastic at the top of the black dash shroud (The one which has the four switches on it (rear demister, interior light, headlights, hazard lights).
#2
They make up a part of the parallel lines which run the entire length of the black shroud.
#3
Then you remove the screws underneath the black bits of plastic.
#4
Then you look underneath the black shroud and remove the two screws located directly underneath the switches on the black shroud.
#5
Then remove the black shroud and unplug the four connectors, place it on the passengers seat.
#6
Then remove the plastic shroud which goes underneath the steering wheel shaft and has the handbrake handle on it, there are four plastic fit screws which need to be rotated with either your fingers or a butter knife.
#7
Once that is out of the way you put your left hand up underneath the instrument cluster and unplug the clear connector and the black connector.
#8
Finally to remove the instrument cluster you undo the four screws surrounding it and then lift the top out first then the bottom part of it.

To reinstall the dash you gotta remember to put the bottom in first then the top part.

I'm a hardcore XF fan. No question is left unanswered.

Also, to remove the two top screws from the dash shroud you use a small screwdriver bit to remove them with. Forgot to add that info.
