we have an el wagon with no cruise control , i have installed the steering wheel controls , what i want to know is , does the control box behind the fuse panel need to be replaced with one from a vehicle fitted with cruise or will it connect up with the wiring from a cruise fitted vehicle, i will be sourcing the right harness from a wreckers.

i know i need the switch for the master cylinder and the module and cable , anything else i need ?

Hello,

Have you read the Tech. Doc. ? If you car has ABS it has the high end harness with the Cruise connection already fitted. I read through it ages ago, and I think there is also a jumper you need to fit above where the clutch peddle would be or a switch if you have a manual.

Hello,

You still may have to fit the jumper for it to work. The manual has a switch to turn the Cruise off when you put the clutch in, if Cruise is fitted you will need the jumper as an Auto wont have it put in at the factory if it isn't needed. I was going to fit Cruise to mine, which is why I read the Doc to see what I would have to do.

if you're getting the factory wiring loom off a Futura/Fairmont you will need the entire loom that runs behind the dash to each airbag, all the way to the front drivers side ABS sensor.

otherwise just cut the loom where it goes into the cabin behind the brake booster, unpick just the wires that connect to the cruise plug and master cylinder switch and add about 30cms of wire to each of the 7 or so wires. then wire it up according to:

ford-interior-f14/installing-cruise-control-on-non-abs-vehicle-t23377.html

you won't require the jumper link either this way.

you will have to replace the Dash loom and the firewall loom with looms from a vechile that has cruise control....... and then get the cruise control module that sits next to the brake booster.....
Yes big job.....

A mate of mine was going to do this, he eventually decided aftermarket was a lot less stuffing around. Works well, not too expensive and tidy install.
