So bought a cheap ba falcon last week with a stuffed gearbox.
Didn't concern me too much as I got hold of a second hand box fairly easily. After putting the replacement gearbox in and filing it with fluid it refuses to select gears. The p m d all flash on the dash indicating limp mode but does not select any gears, just free revs. Could this be a electrical fault or somthing I can pull off the other box as the other box selected gears fine and never went into limp mode. Also the old box slipped massively and when removed while slowly turning the torque convertor I can hear chunks in the convertor itself moving around as it its knackered. Maybe the old box is fine just convertor failure. Cheers for any help.

well after a bit of checking it turns out the oil pump was stuffed.
so after pulling the old oil pump out and replacing that it grabs gears as it normally should. only problem still remaining is it it still going into limp mode. even after replacing the whole valve body too. could this be just a stuffed box? also had a bluepoint scantool on it and comes up with no fault codes.
