Cams from a reground $170 through to $500. I want to make sure I get the right cam first go, and build the car around it. (top end wise, because I am cheap) I already bought a vernier cam gear. Im told it will be pretty hard to kill a tickford E series bottom end without boost. Would you agree? There is no difference between a so called Tickford 4.0 EF and a bog stock EF bottom end. If you want to build a bottom end, start with an AU Block. Thanks dude. I believe the compression is significantly more. For eg. My stock EA is 8.8:1 and the EF tickford is supposed to be around 9.5ish:1 and use hyperutectic pistons (forgive my spelling if thats wrong) I have no ambition to alter the bottom end. If the bottom ends are the same. How do you get 3.9L then 4.0L ? |

Cheers, Tait

Larger Mains are better. The EL Hybrid has the same mains as the AU and onwards.

I am running the 977B cam with a cms stage 3 head on my engine. I find the 977B cam is a perfect cam for everyday driving which will give you very good power and torque. I do find the cam lacks top end. It made max power at 4900rpm on my engine. But if i was to build a 1/4 mile engine i would run a cam with something like 225 to 235 degree cam at 50, a custom port job with larger valves, haltec sports 2000 a fresh up on the bottom end etc. If i was to go turbo set up i would use the 977B or the 1521a cam, a turbo spec head, haltec sports 2000 ecu, forged pistons with steel rods etc. One thing i have learnt about building a race engine is how deep are your pockets because skys is the limit.
