Hey guys, so I'm new here and now that's out of the way I have a question.

My daily is an '03 BA XR6. She's just clicked 200,000 and I've started to lose 3rd gear unless in sequential and on those cold mornings there is no 1st. I've done a little research, spoken to a few people and read a few topics and they all say the 4spd auto is s**t, & that the transmission is a sealed unit that's "built to last".
Given tax time is upon us, and i miss my clutch more than i could describe I thought now might be the time to do a conversion on my girl.
So there's a 5spd or a 6spd (from my understanding) & I would like to know the pros and cons of each, & what you'd recommend. What kind of problems am I going to encounter along the way, and any other suggestions you may have :D
I don't plan on modding the car, nor do I thrash her stupid. She's a family car that hasn't let me down yet.. (where's that wood...?) I want a manual in her and I want her to last.

Thanks in advance!

the 4spd is fine

they do need to be serviced with the oil and filter changed just like the engine!

no idea whats involved in a b series manual conversion

you would more than like be easier and cheaper to find a low km 4speed auto
or have yours rebuilt

Hi, the ba/bf manual boxs are getting cheaper now and you can get your auto ecu flashed to run manual/ive seen a few xr6 manual ecu's at good prices too (around $150 usually), also T5 is a cable clutch T56 is hydraulic-so make sure you get a everthing with the box when you buy it, yep I'm missing driving a manual aswell, doing a barra conversion with T5 in my xg ute can't f*#@in wait!!
Cheers, John.

All B Series manuals are Hydraulic clutch. There is absolutely no provision to run a cable clutch at all.
