Hi guys.

My 94 EF Fairmont Ghia sedan has a horrible heater that leaked everywhere. The whole passenger side of the carpet is completely soaked, and as I've recently bought a new car (VX ii lumina wagon) I've decided to try doing some repairs so that my mother can drive it. Her 99 TF Magna is noisey (stuffed exhaust) and also started leaking from the heater.

It's going to take a while, I realise, to get it up to scratch (new alternator, battery, etc etc), but have started taking the console and dash to bits. Has anyone changed the carpet, does it come out in one piece, or is it in two pieces?

This will be my first foray into fixing a car, so I'm a little inexperienced, but willing to learn. Also trying to involve my son as well.

Thanks for any help

Nchy

The whole carpet is one piece, you need to take both front seats out (4 torx bolts, easy), the rear you only need to unhook the bottom half of the seat. Then take off the little plastic trim bits and kick panels near the floor.

Knox auto carpets on ebay make moulded carpets for EF/EL, they come in a front and rear section and need to have holes cut in, and underlay glued in too.

If possible try a hot water extractor to clean the original carpet. Aftermarket carpets dont fit as good.

Steam breaks down and disperses dirt to be removed. You need to actually extract all the dirt/coolant in the carpet.

Yup, there is an awful amount of coolant in the carpet :/

Tried a wet/dry vac to get rid of the worst of it, but whole car fogs up during the night, too much water still inside it :/

I think you should remove the carpet, get it professionally cleaned, then if its still too cold where you live, take it to a panel beater with a car oven and just stick it in there till its dried out? haha

Definately getting carpet out, but that means making room in the garage for the comfy chairs (I find the stock seats really comfy).
