hey guys awhile now my car has some pinging problem on unleaded haven't really notice it on 98 but definitely on 91 it started when I put in an series 2 au bottom end with my el tickford gear I did have the timing a little bit advance so the cam would come on earlier but it would start pinging around 2500rpm through to 3500/4000rpm. so I have play around with the timing and now it is sitting around 1 or 2 degrees retarted its getting little better but still pings. just wondering if anyone else have had this problem? and also can the knock sensor play a part in this issue?

the knock sensor should retard ignition timing somewhat but not always enough, that's if its working?
things to consider, whats the compression?
you may just have to run premium due to mix and match parts giving you higher comp?.
or retard the base ignition timing to prevent the pinging..
also what plugs are you running, a colder heat range plug can help with removing heat from combustion chamber and reduce chance of pinging...

hey troyman im just using the normal EL XR6 ones I think there ZGR6B-11
