Hello to all, or to anyone that reads this...
I haven't paid much attention to this site as of late, due to moving to Albury & work, ect..

My auto has been acting weird & inappropriately..
'I have some-what of an idea on what's causing this problem'....
But I was hoping someone more experienced in this field could please help?..
The box is well kept.. Rebuilt a little over 18 months ago, always serviced early, and has the correct fluid level when hot at operating temp...

This problem has only started over the last 2 weeks. I drive the car daily.
The problem is temperamental, not always acting up, mostly more often then not. :(

Usually its more of a problem when cold rather then hot..
Tho, its still playing up, less often, while hot at operating temp..

Regardless of what gear the 4 speed is in,..
It will inappropriately drop down a gear and then quickly change back up to the appropriate gear again!. For example 2nd back to 1st, and then quickly changing back up to 2nd  .....

Most of the time it will change from 3rd back down to 2nd, and then, it quickly changes back up to 3rd again!. Its also playing up with 4th, shifting back to 3rd, and then quickly changing back up to 4th again!...

Also a few days ago I started the car (it was a very cold morning).
I shifted the gear selector into 1st to trying to make it hold its gear... it didn't,.. it just made its way through the gears normally as tho it was just in drive!
(making me think the inhibitor switch is stuffed?)
But the prick of a thing hasn't done that since!..
It just continues to shift down and up gears inappropriately while operating the throttle in normal driving conditions...

Apart from all this, the auto performs quite well.. Its not leaking. It dose not slip or feel sluggish.
When it shift gears normally and at higher RPM the shift is smooth, quick & sweet, it doesn't flare heavily into gear.

Anyway, I hope someone can shed light and give me some diagnostic advice on how to rectify this problem...

Thankyou

Inhibitor switch maybe? They can do funny things when they start to play up.

Throttle position switch is a good posibility - both changes reek of the TCM thinking the accelerator is traveling further, then snapping back.
