Hi Guys,
I have a 91 EB Falcon with an EL ecu and J3 Chip to disable smartlock. I've been trying to smooth out the idle after swapping ISCs (was running an EECIV/log manifold ISCs on a BBM, swapped to the proper one) and double check a few things like base timing but I need to get into diag mode. The car has the 6 pin diagnostic connecter next to the brake booster and I've done lots of searching on how to enter diagnostic mode but found nothing specific to my situation aka EECV ECU in car with 6 pin diag connector. I did find info on how to extract EECIV fault codes from http://www.fordmods.com/fordmods-technical-documents-diy-f38/eec-iv-ecu-diagnostic-t39072.html but I don't know if connecting "the white/black wire terminal 4 on the 6 pin connector to the white red wire 1pin self test connector. " will get me into diag mode with an EL ecu. Can anyone confirm this? I guess if worst comes to worst I should just be able to ground pin 48 (STI) on the ecu to get into diag mode, yeah? Would be nice if i can do it all from the 6 pin connector though.

The 6 pin plug doesn't carry STI. That is on the 1 pin plug next door. White with red stripe from memory. Connet it to earth. The 6 pin plug has STO, FP and Sig Ret

Guess i answered my own question with my first post lol
"white red wire 1pin self test connector" should have been paying more attention.

Tommo52 wrote: Would be nice if i can do it all from the 6 pin connector though. Don't know if the early setup matches the later - continuity check I suppose.Failing that, you could splice into the three wires, and have a plug at the pass kickpanel, to plug into with a toggle switch and 12v LED (EL ECU's have 3 digit codes). Can use this for base timing too.

From what I've read, pin A on the diag connector of EBII+ is STI which you ground to pin L (eng ground). Don't tell me i've being doing it wrong this whole time (i've only been entering diag mode for base timing, not for fault checking.) snap0964 wrote: Don't know if the early setup matches the later - continuity check I suppose. If the 6pin connector doesn't match the proper pinouts for diag modes then I guess I'll have to, simple enough to do and could wire it up into the glove box and have it living in there permanently. Thanks snap

Did a continuity check and they all lead to where they should.
6 pin connector: Pin 2 - siginal ground pin 4 - Self test output Single plug: white/red - Self test input and the result of all this, code 511 probably explains why my idle is up s**t creek
