Ive been reading about people doing au engine conversion into e series and cutting sumps and k frames etc. Well i spotted this on ebay the reckon its an au donk with e series sump this could make the conversion easier for a few of the guys out there

The sump on the motor in the photo is the aluminium Au style... Pretty sure EF/EL are identical to the steel ED sump... If you get rid of the AU sump and run the early one you lose the 4 bolt mains system that the sump gives...

Cheers,
Tim

Load of s**t. That engine is fitted with an AU sump. All the E series sumps were the same. Oil pick up is located in exactly the same place in both the E series and AU engines, even though th oil pumps are not interchangable.
Quoted from the ad
"Engine and trans professionally fitted by swapping the reverse AU sump and long oil pickup for the forward EF sump and short oil pickup , runs everything EF except for AU altenator , goes real well ."

There is no reverse AU Sump. It was in the FG that Ford moved the oil pickup to the rear.

The EF sump can't be fitted correctly to an AU engine due to the different size of the rear main cap. If the E series sump is attempted to be fitted to the AU block, there is a gap between the sump and rear main cap. The only way to fit the E series sump is to fill it with sislicon and hope for the best. Why do you think we all go to the effort of having the sump modified and as Tim has said, if you could fit the E series sump, you would loose the extra strength provided by the cross bolting.

$1000 for an AU Engine and an EL BTR is a rip off. The bloke should be reported.

I stand corrected.

Thanks all.
