hey guys, quick tip that may help if you are having key fob problems....this was on my EL but it might also help other models... My key fob was getting increasingly haphazard in its operation to the point that if you held it against the window and pressed the button 10 times it'd maybe activate once... the light would come on but a bit flicker - I'd already put a new battery in and it made no real difference. Faced with around 100 or more on a new fob that may or may not fix it I thought I'd take a closer look inside. I opened it up, took out the guts (circuit board and battery) and had a real close look at it. I have a cheapy hand held microscope that magnifies to around 30x but I reckon a decent magnifying glass would have been better. I was looking for dry solder joints, burnt components, anything that didn't look right - it seemed OK in those regards but I did notice that one of the tracks on the circuit boards looked a bit eroded at one point, and also looked like it had a bit of a hairline crack too. All I did was take a thin guage length of wire ( leave the insulation on) , stripped a mm or so off each end, and soldered it to where the suspect track started and finished. Put it back together, and I was shocked to find that it locks and unlocks from 10 metres away every time! When you think about why one of these would get erratic or stop completely its gotta be either battery or something going wrong with internal wiring or a burned out component. If you have a dead or dying one it cant hurt to have a look....

The switches on the board gum up at times too.
You can take the metal clip off remove the clear tape and metal disc, clean with metho and cotton wool buds.
