Ford Australia has confirmed more details of the Mustang coupe and convertible ahead of its launch in 2015. Although official pricing remains unconfirmed the company has given details of what the four-cylinder EcoBoost and V8 GT models will get when they arrive mid-year. Controversially the engine outputs of the 5.0-litre V8 in the GT are significantly different from the initial numbers quoted at the US launch of the iconic pony car. The US V8 is quoted as having 324kW of power and 542Nm of torque while Australian cars are rated at 303kW and 525Nm. But Ford Australia is adamant that the engines are identical and the difference in figures is due to the way each country officially measure engine performance. A Ford spokesman explained the US cars are measured using the SAE method which allows the engine to be tested without any auxiliary systems (alternator, water pump, muffled exhaust, etc). The Australian cars use a DIN standard that includes those extra features which drain power for the test. However, the spokesman insisted that the engine is the same specification in both the US and Australian cars. Ford Australia has also confirmed that both models will get the same level of standard equipment, with only the engines, alloy wheels and brakes varying. Both variants will be equipped with keyless entry, satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, auto headlights, heated and cooled leather seats, Ford's Sync2 infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth and a nine-speaker stereo. On the safety front the Mustang will get five airbags (front, side and driver's knee), reversing camera and Ford's MyKey; which can limit how fast the car can go. Ford Australia has opted to make the Performance Package standard on local Mustangs, which means bigger wheels and brakes. The EcoBoost will ride on black 19-inch alloy wheels while the GT will get 19x9-inch front and 19x9.5-inch rear black alloys. The GT also gets bigger six-piston Brembo brakes while the EcoBoost is fitted with four-piston calipers. source: smh.com.au
