I'm considering putting on additional pair of 100w long range driving lights on the Nudge Bar of Ford AU11.
I do a lot of country driving at night around Allora, Hendon and Budgee before heading back to Brisbane. I currently have a pair of 250Watt sealed beams. they are good but unfortunately the beam cannot be adjusted sufficiently, a percentage of the beam shines into the trees. I can only adjust the nudge bar a few times to get the beam closer onto the road but still most of it shines high in the trees. The housing which accommodate these sealed beams cant be adjusted. The 100w lights which I want to attach are smaller...about 3" diameter. Question is 1. Do I need to have separate relays for these or can they be wired into the existing long range lights so that 4 long range lights are running. 2. Can a separate override switch be used to power the new long range beams. 3. Do I need to upgrade the standard Alternator to another to handle the additional load? If so, what alternator would be recommended. 4. The 100w beams also come with a LED light that can replace the H3 bulb. I assume this would need a resistor added if changing H3 bulb to an LED light equivalent of 100w output. Any advice on this is welcome. Cheers, Bondy |

Gday mate, OK heres some responses off the top of my head
1) for the relative ease of putting extra relays on I reckon they're a good idea, first so you are not overloading the existing wiring and second so you get the full efficiency out of the new lights 2) If you've put in new relays then running an additional wire from the trigger side of the relay should be easy, run this to a switch and done. 3) not so sure about whether you need to upgrade the alternator, I've put spotties on a range of Falcons back to XA's and XB's without upgrading the alternator and have had no issues.. I suppose once you have them in watch your volt guage to see what kind of drop you get when using them 4) if they come with an optional LED setup what do the instructions that come with it say? I'd be surprised if they offer it as an option - but expect you to have to muck around with resistors - read the instructions and see what the manufacturer recommends.. Hope that helps you..

Thanks for your assistance. I think having an extra two relays would be ideal, one relay for each. Unfortunately no additional wiring came with the package, no switch either. As for wiring instructions one needs a magnifying glass, print is very small as well as wiring guide...from China. The kit came with an LED set up but don't know if they have a built in resistor. The LED came with the package , probably as a replacement if the H3 bulb goes bung. Unfortunately there is no voltage gauge in the cluster instruments of AUII. Cheers |

Cheers Drop a multimeter on the battery and turn the lights on while the car is running, should show you any significant drop in voltage. There is a 140amp Alterntor for the BA which will bolt straight up to the AUIII. |

SWC,
The 140amp Alternator you mentioned for the BA. Where does one obtain that from? I assume this alternator would suit AU II as well as AU III ? Is the pully wheel on the alt same diameter as a different size? Pully belt might be required. Cheers |

Remember see one, can't find where now, but link to a 130amp, Check this one as it is listed for a BF & FG. They have a different plug setup to the BA. Early BF were the same as the BA and I know the FG is different to the AU. http://www.automotiveelectricsonline.co ... lcon-bf-fg There are plenty of 120amp on Ebay, yours if stock will be 110amp. |
